Circular route from: Carnforth

This route follows the towpath of the Lancaster Canal from the town of Carnforth to the seaside village of Bolton-le-Sands, and returns via a country footpath. There are great views across Morecombe Bay.

Public transport: Carnforth has a station and local bus connections.

 

Waypoints

1. Carnforth Station

From the station, take Market Street and then continue along Kellet Road. Just before the canal bridge, turn right through the play area and onto the canal towpath. Turn right and continue past Carnforth Marina. From here, the you can follow the canal towpath through the countryside to the village of Bolton-le-Sands.

2. Bridge 122, Bolton-le-Sands

At Bridge 122 in Bolton-le-Sands, cross the bridge and leave the canal, going up the hill of St Michael's Lane towards the church. Bear left along Bolton Lane, and then turn left onto Mount Pleasant Lane. After the crossroads with Thwaite Brow Lane, the lane will become a rougher track. Continue along this track.

3. Mount Pleasant

Just before Mount Pleasant, the track bears to the right around some buildings. Continue following the track down to the canal.

4. Return to the towpath

Cross the canal bridge and turn right along the canal. You can either return to the start by your original route or, at the Marina, turn left onto the A6 and use that route to return to the station.
