This gentle route has lovely river views and winds through some traditional hamlets which visitors to the south west could easily pass by.

A walk from the beautiful Trelissick garden which passes through pleasant woodlands, oyster-fishing hamlets and old pack horse trails. In the Spring walkers should watch out for pathways which can become boggy, but this area is a year-round delight for any nature-lover. The National Trust property of Trelissick is well worth exploring at the beginning or the end of your walk.

Getting there

Parking: You can park your car in the Trelissick car park.

Waypoints

1. From Trelissick to Cowlands

Walk westwards from the car park through the beautiful parkland around Trelissick. Enjoy the river views down to Falmouth. After a while you will come to the Old Lodge. Take care when crossing the B3289 and take the winding pathway down through the woods. You need to take the left-hand branch, and then turn right onto the track leading to Cowlands. This is a traditional hamlet where oyster-fishing still continues.

2. Past Old Kea Church

Start to go up the hill and then turn right onto a signposted path leading through oak woodlands to Lower Banner Farm. Cross the road, cross the next field and turn right onto the downhill road to Old Kea church. Continue along a steep field pathway to Trevean. Turn left at the cottages and head for Halwyn.

3. Return to Trelissick

Pass Halwyn (currently undergoing restoration) and turn left across a field. Head for Coombe and walk back along the shore to Cowlands. From here you can retrace your steps back to Trelissick, but if you're feeling fit then take a left turn near the top of the hill (south from Cowlands) down an old pack horse trail to Roundwood Quay. Follow the track to the north of Lamouth Creek and gradually wind your way back to Trelissick.
