Cycling along the Birmingham Canal Main Line

The Birmingham & Black Country Canal Cycleway runs all the way from Wolverhampton to Birmingham. Much of the route has been resurfaced and is suitable for easy cycling. As the canal is almost entirely level, there are no hills - and, of course, no traffic.

The route is 15.5 miles long in total, but is broken down into easy sections should you prefer a more leisurely or shorter ride. There are many sights to see along the way. To cycle along the towpath, you will need a British Waterways cycling permit, which can be downloaded, free of charge. Please follow the waterway code and heed the 'cyclists dismount' signs.

The canal runs parallel to the main Birmingham-Wolverhampton railway, with stations along the way. Cycles can be carried on local trains. Call 08457 484950 for timetable information.
