Advice: Wakefield Flood Lock, Fall Ings Cut - Calder & Hebble

BW are pleased to inform you that the works being undertaken by CTP St James in conjunction with the Wakefield Headland Development which required a stoppage are now complete and the canal has been re-opened.

Thank you for your co-operation during this extended stoppage and please continue to take caution whilst navigating through the Flood Lock as works are still required to complete the stonework on the lock walls. These works will not restrict passage for any craft.

The navigation at this point is now passable with extreme care. Please note that the towpath is not accessible at this time.

Restriction: Salterhebble Guillotine Lock

Update (22 August): The restricted service will continue at Salterhebble Guillotine Lock for the foreseeable future. A further update will be issued shortly. British Waterways apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Update (18 July 2008): The gear box on top of the guillotine has broken, rendering the lock inoperable by customers. The design has been completed, materials are being procured prior to fabrication.
The restricted service will continue at Salterhebble Guillotine Lock and an update will be issued on Friday 22nd August. The lock will continue to be operated on a restricted service, operated by BW staff from 9am - 10am, 12 noon - 2pm and 4pm - 6pm daily.

Restriction: Calder River Bridge, Ravensthorpe

Major third party works Project to strengthen the road bridge. Scaffold to be erected to the bridge affecting the normal navigable route beneath the structure.
Width of Navigation reduced by half beneath the bridge.
Follow directional signage on site. Do not pass another craft directly beneath the bridge. Follow any instructions given by the contractors staff.

Restriction: Bridge 14 Calderway Bridge, Elland

Headroom is restricted for maintenance painting of third party bridge requiring scaffolding.

Please follow the instructions of the contractor’s staff on site. A delay of 20 minutes may be possible during the installation and removal of scaffolding, for the works to be made safe.
