Walking along the Forth & Clyde Canal

The Forth & Clyde provides good walking along its length. These are our recommended routes.

  • Knightswood to Clydebank: A distance of 2 miles in each direction. Allow around 1.5 hours to complete this interesting walk. The countryside surroundings are a welcome respite from the neighbouring built-up area.
  • Speirs Wharf - Maryhill - Kelvin Walkway: Allow about 3-hours for this 9.7km (6 mile) walk past Maryhill Locks, arguably the finest collective feature on the canal.
  • Lock 27 - Maryhill - Cloberhill: This 2-hour 6.4km (4 mile) walk begins from the Lock 27 public house, and continues past Kelvin Aqueduct along a waterside route. Beautiful park stretches provide excellent views of the city.
  • Craigmarloch to Wyndford: A distance of 4km (2 miles) along the towpath.
