Walking along the River Medway

The navigation is supported by a signposted footpath network which allows visitors unique access throught beautiful Kentish scenery of hop fields and orchards.

Much of the towpath has been re-established by the Medway River Project as a river walk, known as the 'Medway Valley Walk'. The Medway Valley Walk runs along the entire Medway from Tonbridge to Rochester and is well signposted. The river winds its way through orchards and hop gardens, known as the Garden of England, and a well-maintained and signposted footpath network allows public access from the river farther into the beautiful Kent countryside and beyond. The project is a partnership between the Environment Agency, Countryside Commission, local authorities and industry. A detailed guide is available from Kent County Council's Recreation and Access team who can be contacted on 01622 221526.

The towpath between Allington and Teston forms the Kent Millennium River Park, which opened in 2001. The section between Allington and Tovil is surfaced. Approximately 1km from Allington lies Whatman Park, which is a brand new recreational area. The Park boasts a variety of special features including treetop walks, a nature trail, adventure playground, skateboard park and riverside arena for outside entertainment.
