Advice: Diglis and Upton on Severn

Update - 26 November 2007: The River Severn is now open between Diglis and Upton upon Severn. The narrowboat remains in the mid channel but is clearly marked with two buoys. The narrowboat is 4ft under the water so please navigate this section with extreme caution.

20 November 2007: The River Severn is closed between Diglis and Upton on Severn following the sinking of a narrow boat mid channel.

Advice: Sharpness Lockage Fees

These fees are payable by short term craft licence holders. Long term licence holders have a quota of free passages dependant upon the duration of the craft licence – 12 months – 16 lockages; 6 months – 8 lockages; 3 months – 4 lockages. If the number of lockages in a licence period exceeds this quota then the charge is also payable by long term licence holders.

These fees are being revised now for the first time since 2002.

River only craft licence holders will require an additional top up licence for the canal to qualify for free passage through the sea lock.

Those that do not qualify for a free passage will be charged £25 per lockage an increase of £5 on the previous charge.

This charge is a contribution to the cost of water used for the lockage. This water has to be replaced in the canal by pumping from the River Severn at Gloucester.
