Advice: Sharpness Lockage Fees

Fees for leisure craft passing through the Sea Lock at Sharpness.
Lockage fee of £25 per boat per lock
Appropriate British Waterways’ licenceLong Term Licence holders (River & Canal or River Only) benefit from a number of inclusive lock passages:
12 Months 16 lock passages
6 Months 8 lock passages
3 Months 4 lock passagesIf you hold a long term River Only Licence you will need to upgrade to a Canal & River licence to enter the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal or Gloucester Lock. The charge will be 50% of the Canal & River licence for the period that the upgrade is required. (Note you still benefit from the Long Term licence holder inclusive lock passages.)
Concessions on lockage fees are given to block bookings subject to the group entering and leaving Sharpness on the same tide and a single payment for the group to cover both licensing and lockage charges. Please contact our customer service staff for details on 01452 318000.

Advice: Elsan disposal at Upton-On-Severn Marina

Restriction: Between Holt and Lincomb Locks

British Waterways have received reports of an obstruction adjacent to the west side mooring pontoons near to the Hampstall Inn at The Burf.
The Burf is between Holt and Lincomb locks.
Boaters cruising outside of the main navigation channel or intending to moor at the pontoons are advised to exercise extreme caution.
The river main navigation channel is not affected by the obstruction.

Winter Opening hours for the Gloucester Office - South Wales and Severn Waterway.Week commencing 3rd October 2011 to week commencing 2nd April 2012
The office will be open to customers on Mondays and Thursdays from 9.30am to 12.30
All other times either by appointment or use alternative such as www.waterscape.com

Non-commercial Vessels –Passage 5 days per week Thursday to Monday. Opening Time 8am to 4pm. River Locks need to be booked in advance. Booking made via telephone 01452 310832 (Gloucester Lk). A minimum of 24hrs notice is required when booking Locks.
Customers are advised that availability of Lock opening times will be confirmed when booking are made. On odd occasions it may be necessary to offer customers alternative times if Lock Keepers are honouring previously made bookings.Commercial Vessels - Passage 7 days per week. Bookings required for River Locks and G&S Bridges on Tuesday and Wednesday. Masters are requested to give at least 24hrs notice when booking passage.

Restriction: River Severn - East Parting
10 Nov 2011 until further notice

Boaters are advised that the recent increased rainfall and high tides has led to the movement of debris within the river. Some of the debris has now become lodged in the navigation channel at the East Parting. The channel remains navigable but boaters are advised to approach obstructions with care.
British Waterways are working to remove the trees as soon as possible and restore the navigation to full operation.

Restriction: River Severn - Upton upon Severn Bridge

Contractors working for Worcestershire Highways will be carrying out essential maintenance works to Upton upon Severn bridge.
For the duration of the works the air draft will be affected by the works.Boaters are advised that half of the navigation channel will be operating with a reduced air draft. The remaining part of the navigation channel is unaffected by the restriction.
As with all works on the river, boaters are requested to approach the area with caution and sound an audible warning. For boats that require the full air draft they should exercise extreme caution when not travelling in accordance with navigation convention to pass the obstruction.

Restriction: River Severn - Upton upon Severn Flood Defence Works
05 Dec 2011 until further notice

Contractors working for the Environment Agency will be carrying out preparatory works for a flood defence barrier alongside the west bank of the river, slightly downstream of Upton upon Severn bridge.
For the duration of the works the Contractor will be working with floating plant in the river channel adjacent to the “The Swan” hotel.
Boaters are advised to stay clear of the works and take due note of the warning lights and buoysBoaters are further advised that vessels associated with the works will be manoeuvring in and around the works and are requested to approach the area with caution and sound an audible warning. Boaters should wait until the navigation channel is clear before proceeding.
Boaters should also note that Upton upon Severn bridge works are affecting the navigation channel and approaching craft may not be following the correct navigation convention to pass beneath the bridge.British Waterways wishes to apologise for the inconvenience caused and kindly request boaters to plan their journeys accordingly.

Restriction: Stourport upon Severn to Gloucester

The recent high winds and increased flow within the river has led to the movement of a number of large trees and obstructions down river.
As water levels recede trees and other obstruction may become caught up in the navigation channel.
British Waterways are checking the river to identify problem areas and will be working to remove obstructions as soon as possible.Boaters are however requested to take extreme care when navigating the river and keep a careful watch for trees and other obstructions.
