River Weaver

This busy commercial waterway has a long history of carrying salt and chemicals, but now that the Anderton Boat Lift has reopened, it is accessible to pleasure boats too.

The navigable River Weaver runs for 20 miles between Winsford in Cheshire and Runcorn on the Manchester Ship Canal.

The outstanding feature of the River Weaver is the Anderton Boat Lift that connects the river with the Trent & Mersey Canal, over 50 feet above. After lying derelict for almost 20 years, the lift has been fully restored to operation, and narrowboats are once again a familiar sight on the Weaver.

The Weaver is at the heart of Northwich's renaissance, and is set to provide the backdrop for the town's new 'cultural quarter'. Find out more at www.northwichvision.org.
