BW launches new eco-friendly facilities in Lincoln

8th May 2008

British Waterways is officially launching a recently completed project in Lincoln that aims to improve visitor access and provide state of the art, environmentally friendly customer service facilities.

The project involved demolishing an existing toilet block and replacing it with a new customer services facility. The site now boasts a full range of boating facilities including toilets, showers, a laundry and waste disposal facilities.

Innovative environmental and energy saving features

The new facilities are packed with innovative environmental and energy saving features such as interior and exterior PIR lighting, which saves electricity by switching off when the facilities aren’t in use. The new shower is also energy efficient, as it only heats the water needed and preserves water by switching off after 30 seconds.

The facilities also incorporate a recycling area allowing boaters to recycle their waste for the first time on this site.

The project also involved the construction of a new access ramp for disabled visitors; perimeter fencing and lighting; landscaping and upgrading the access path to the residential mooring.

British Waterways has worked in partnership with Lincolnshire Waterways Partnership, following long discussions to improve these facilities for residential boaters as well as visiting boaters.

We hope these facilities will help all boaters moor here

Caroline Killeavy, general manager for British Waterways in the East Midlands said, "We are proud of what has been achieved at Lincoln and we hope that these facilities will help all boaters who moor here. We are also extremely grateful to our partners for their support".

The project was started in October 2007 and completed in early April; with the Design and Build contract carried out by Apex Construction Ltd.

An official launch ceremony will take place on Monday 12th May and will include a local resident officially opening the facility and a tour of the site.
