BW to hold workshops for volunteer groups

15th Dec 2009

Volunteers play an essential part in contributing towards keeping the UK’s canals and rivers shipshape and in January, British Waterways will be running a series of workshops for the volunteer groups it works with.

The sessions are intended to be an opportunity for the groups to further engage with the organisation and set out their aims and objectives. Members of BW’s Volunteering team and other local colleagues will also talk through British Waterways’ plans for volunteering and there will be the opportunity to discuss how British Waterways can work together with volunteer groups to increase and improve volunteering opportunities on the waterways.

Edd Moss, national volunteering manager, said: "British Waterways works with a wide range of volunteer groups on a variety of activities across the UK and has involved volunteers in engineering, volunteering development, hydrology and more, as well as more traditional areas of support on the bankside. We think it will be valuable for both our volunteers and us to pick each others’ brains and share ideas on how to maximise the benefits of volunteering on the waterways."

If you would like your volunteer group to be involved in the workshops, or would like further information, please email volunteer@britishwaterways.co.uk.
