BW workboats available for online auction

As announced last month, British Waterways is to auction off over 40 redundant workboats in an online sale. The auction, which finishes on 29 September 2010, includes workboats, hoppers, a selection of British Waterways' historic craft, boat engines and more.

Stephen Hames, senior engineer at British Waterways, is responsible for the boat disposal and comments: "We’ve assessed our fleet and are auctioning off craft that are surplus to requirements. The boats add colour and character to our waterways and we hope to find new owners who will keep them afloat for years to come."

Craft include:

Heritage boats

  • Princess Mary licensed to carry passengers
  • Arthur A Bland river tug
  • Friar Tuck river tug
  • Aynho motor works narrowboat (1936)
  • Carnaby motor works boat (1937)
  • Heron works boat (Circa 1930s)
  • Ohm hopper
  • Whitley maintenance boat

Work boats

  • tugs including pushtugs
  • workboats with/without cabins
  • workboats with dredging arms
  • weedcutters
  • hoppers up to 150 tonnes
  • ramp pontoon

Other boats and equipment

  • 30ft GRP river cruiser
  • pontoons
  • Yamaha L100 engines
  • Lister LT1 engines
  • range of contractors and ground maintenance plant

GoIndustry DoveBid has been appointed to handle the auction and the full auction lot will be available to view online in the next few days.
