Llangollen

A bustling little market town surrounded by the spectacular country of the Dee Valley.

You can enjoy a 45-minute horse-drawn boat trip or a two-hour narrow boat trip from the attractive town of Llangollen. The latter includes a crossing of one of the Seven Wonders Of The Waterways, the incredible Pontcysyllte Aqueduct – the reason visitors flock to Llangollen from all four corners of the globe. For the historically-minded, there is everything from Dinas Bran Castle and Valle Crucis Abbey to the marvellous 18th century house and garden at Plas Newydd.

Visit the Motor Museum (01978 860324) or take a ride on the Steam Railway (01978 860979). There's canoeing and white-water rafting (01978 860763), bike-hire (01978 860605), golf, hill-walking and rock-climbing. Concerts, exhibitions and cinema are staged in the Royal International Pavillion (01978 860111). Every July, the town plays host to the world famous Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod (01978 862000).
